vector graphic
An image mode up of a series of points joined by lines which are calculated mathematically. Also called object-oriented graphic.

vector graphics
Digital images defined interactively on-screen, as a rule, using illustration software and the mouse. A vector image is determined by specified points and mathematical functions. Curves can either be generated automatically or drawn manually and approximated by series of line segments. Areas defined by curves may be filled in with colour at the designer's choice.

vector image
A type of image file format that uses mathematical expressions to describe shapes. Vectors, sometimes called outlines or paths, are resolution independent. The instructions to create the image are converted to pixels according to the capabilities of the printer or monitor. Charts, drawings, technical illustrations, and decorative type are often vector images. Popular vector file formats include AI, EPS, DCS, DXF, PIC, WMF, and EMF.
